Upcoming events

This event is one of my favorite traditions! Continuing the legacy of one of the area's popular Zumba instructors, who led a flashmob at the local mall for several years, I gather a group of zombies to dance to "Thriller" outside at the downtown Vancouver farmers market near Halloween. This year it's ON Halloween! Please join us, come watch, or spread the word.

• Meeting location: Right next to the Slocum House, on the park side, at Esther Short Park. Make sure you leave ample time for parking, either in the dedicated market parking across Esther St from City Hall or on nearby streets.

• Meeting time: Between 11:30 and 11:45 AM. We'll take a few photos and admire each other's outfits, then begin a shuffling march down Esther Street right around noon.

• Dancing location: The farmers market intersection, Esther St and W 8th St.

• Dancing time: 12 PM

• Attire: Zombie clothing and/or makeup appreciated but not required!

• Choreography: Follow along as a newbie (it's okay if you don't have the moves right... you are a zombie, after all) or practice ahead of time using this video from original flashmob leader Jennifer Shaw.

• Weather contingency: None! We will do this in the pouring rain or pounding sun, so ah, consider bringing a towel for your car in case your makeup runs. For the past several years we've been lucky enough to have a break in the weather for the five minutes of the song!
